Vibe Dance Fitness class moving together
The story behind Vibe

This is not a fitnesstransformation story.

It is a belonging story, told through movement. About the people who thought dance was not for them, and the class built to prove otherwise.

8 chapters · around 5 minutes
01The problem

Movement was made to feel like a room you had to earn your way into.

The right body. The right age. The right confidence. The right clothes. A quiet list of conditions attached to something that should have belonged to everyone.

“After a while, fear stops sounding like fear and starts sounding like truth.”
The Vibe community moving together

Fitness did not simply exclude people. It taught them to exclude themselves.

Too unfit.

Too awkward.

Too big.

Too old.

Too anxious.

Too late.

Not coordinated enough.

Not the right kind of body.

The cost of the gate

People were left outside joy, connection and movement, then blamed for not coming in.

Vibe begins here, not with a workout plan, but with a refusal: your body is not an admission ticket. It is already invited.

Movement belongs to everybody · Movement belongs to everybody ·
02The person behind it

I’m Matt Campbell.

Not the fitness industry’s usual poster boy.

I’m a performing arts teacher, facilitator, founder of Here/Now and the person who created Vibe.

I’m also a chubby guy who has spent a lifetime negotiating body image, confidence and the strange belief that joy must be earned through looking a certain way.

01

I live with ADHD. I live with anxiety.

02

I know what it is like to look confident while a full committee meeting is happening in your head.

03

I know what it is like to feel uncomfortable in your body and still absolutely love to move.

04

I know what it is like to want to join in, but feel the room has already decided you do not belong.

But heck, can I dance. And so can you.

Your body does not need to earn the right to move. It already has it.

03The turning point

Dance does something hard to explainuntil you feel it.

The idea was never to make another class that asked people to perform confidence. It was to build a place where confidence could quietly grow.

Out of your head

Music interrupts the noise and gives attention somewhere kinder to land.

Back into your body

Movement becomes something you experience, not something you are judged for.

Connected without words

A room can move together before anybody has found the perfect thing to say.

Power without intimidation

Something this useful should never feel reserved for the already confident.

The question that became Vibe

Why is something this powerful made to feel so intimidating?

So I built the class I wished more people had access to: good music, clear teaching, low pressure, no judgement and participation as the only measure that mattered.

04What Vibe is

Fun first.Fitness follows.

A music-led dance fitness class for real people, where the room adapts to the person rather than demanding the person adapt to the room.

Vibe Dance Fitness in action

The participation principle

A wrong step done with freedom beats a perfect step done in fear.

You do not need to be fit to start.

You do not need to know the steps.

You do not need dance experience.

You only need permission to have a go.

Good music

Every track is chosen to move you. The playlist is a promise.

Clear teaching

Step by step, no experience needed. If you get lost, follow Matt. If Matt gets lost, improvise. It all counts.

Choose your intensity

Low impact to full performance mode. You decide what your body does. Nobody else.

Zero judgement

Miss a step? So does Matt sometimes. So does everyone. The move is to keep going.

Mistakes are welcome

Getting it wrong IS part of it. A wrong step done with energy beats a perfect step done in fear every time.

Start exactly where you are

Not where you think you should be. Not where you were five years ago. Right here, right now, as-is.

05The impact

The real result is not a number.

It is the moment somebody stops monitoring themselves long enough to laugh, move and feel part of the room.

Vibe class members moving together

People coming back to themselves.

That is the bit that matters.

In their words

“I was terrified before I came. I was smiling within the first two minutes.”

Class member

I was terrified before I came. I was smiling within the first two minutes. I thought everyone would be watching me. Nobody was. They were all just having fun. I got loads wrong, but nobody cared. That was the moment I relaxed. It just feels really welcoming. Like everyone already decided you belong. It's the first exercise class I've actually wanted to come back to. Every week. I leave feeling better every single time. Not because I nailed it — just because I showed up. Even when I mess up the moves I feel like I won something. The energy in the room is unlike anything I have experienced before. I was terrified before I came. I was smiling within the first two minutes. I thought everyone would be watching me. Nobody was. 06The bit nobody else admits

We are not perfect. That is the whole point.

Vibe leaves the human bits in. The stumbles are not evidence that the work failed. They are evidence that real people made it.

TAKE 01

Filmed in the rain

Hat on. Camera slightly blurry. Vibe intact.

TAKE 02

Filmed on a train

Because choreography does not always wait for a studio.

TAKE 03

Forgotten choreography

We laugh, improvise and carry on. That is the lesson.

TAKE 04

Editing errors

Jump cuts, wrong moves and the occasional accidental teleport.

TAKE 05

Wind noise

Outdoor filming plus a tiny microphone creates character.

TAKE 06

Left when everyone went right

The room followed anyway. Leadership, technically.

Tap the thought to turn it over

Try this instead

That was human, relatable and exactly the point.

You do not need to be flawless to deserve to dance.

Rain, trains, forgotten choreography and accidental improvisation. Not a bug. A feature.

07Vibe Online

A doorway,not a workout warehouse.

For some people, walking into a class is still a huge first step. Vibe Online turns that step into a pathway: private enough to feel safe, structured enough to build confidence and connected enough to lead somewhere.

08The mission

Vibe exists because

Movement should feel joyful, not shameful.

Fitness should feel human.

Dance should belong to everybody.

Wherever you begin

Move more. Feel better. Build confidence. Remember that your body was never the enemy.

Vibe is not here to make you perfect. It is here to help you come back to life a little, one track, one laugh and one gloriously imperfect step at a time.

Fun first.

Fitness follows.

Rain, trains, forgotten choreography and real people. This is Vibe Dance Fitness.
